A horrific road accident late Sunday night in Chhattisgarh’s capital, Raipur, has claimed the lives of 13 people, including nine women and four children, and left 11 others injured. The accident occurred near Saragaon village on the Raipur-Baloda Bazar highway when a truck carrying passengers collided with a trailer.
According to police officials, the victims were members of a family from Chatoud village who had travelled to Bansari village for a family function. While returning home in a truck, their vehicle collided head-on with a heavy trailer near Saragaon.
The impact was devastating, instantly killing several passengers and severely injuring others. The crash site turned into a scene of chaos as locals rushed to help before emergency services arrived.
Following an alert, police and district administration teams quickly reached the site. Emergency personnel worked swiftly to transport the injured to Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital in Raipur for urgent treatment. Authorities confirmed that 13 individuals had died on the spot or succumbed to injuries shortly after.
Gaurav Singh, the District Collector of Raipur, confirmed the tragic loss of 13 lives and said the administration acted immediately upon receiving information. “Our teams responded quickly to rescue and treat the injured,” he stated, adding that adequate medical care is being provided to survivors.
Police have registered a case and begun a formal investigation into the accident. Preliminary inquiries suggest that poor visibility and potential speeding may have contributed to the fatal collision. Forensic and traffic experts are now examining the scene and vehicle conditions to determine accountability.
