Senior Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa visited Jalandhar today, where he addressed the media and urged the Central Government to announce a special economic package for Punjab. He emphasized that Punjab, being a border state, has suffered the most from every war since 1947.
Bajwa pointed out that hilly states received a special package during the BJP government, which lasted nearly ten years. However, Punjab was left out, despite its strategic and national importance.
He stressed that Punjab has always made significant sacrifices for the nation’s defence. Therefore, he said, it deserves special support from the Centre—both for its economic revival and security preparedness.
Bajwa noted that recent attacks from Pakistan have harmed both local industries and ordinary citizens. Given these challenges, he demanded preferential government jobs for youth living in border districts.
He proposed that only healthy candidates aged 18 to 35 should be recruited. This, he said, would allow them to actively contribute to Punjab’s defence and development.
Bajwa further stated that even if the entire state cannot be granted a special package, border districts should at least be prioritized. He also criticized the Indian government for relying on external nations to announce ceasefire agreements. According to him, such decisions should come directly from India.
He labeled Pakistan as “the biggest terrorist nation” and urged the Central Government to take stronger steps to protect Punjab’s security and economy.
