The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for Punjab, forecasting rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds across several districts. The recent spell of rainfall has led to a noticeable dip in temperatures across the state, with maximum temperatures recorded up to 3.1°C below the seasonal average.
Heavy cloud cover persisted throughout Sunday in many parts of the state, accompanied by isolated rain showers. The maximum temperature recorded in Bathinda was 38.6°C, the highest in the state.
According to IMD Chandigarh, this weather shift is driven by an active western disturbance. As per the department, several districts may experience wind speeds of 40–60 km/h, along with thunder and lightning.
Ropar recorded the highest rainfall with 16 mm
Amritsar witnessed 5.0 mm
Pathankot received 4.0 mm
Ludhiana saw 1.0 mm

A ‘Orange Alert’ has been issued for May 5 in the border and hill-adjacent districts of Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Ropar, Mohali, Sangrur, and Mansa, warning of potential thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.
For the remaining districts, a ‘Yellow Alert’ remains in effect until May 8, indicating moderate risk of similar weather activity.
