Amritsar, April 21, 2026
Political and administrative circles are abuzz with activity regarding the arrest of Khadoor Sahib Member of Parliament (MP), Amritpal Singh. Currently lodged in Assam’s Dibrugarh Central Jail under the National Security Act (NSA), his custody period is set to expire on April 22. In anticipation of this, a special team from the Amritsar Police has already reached Dibrugarh.
According to sources, as soon as the NSA term concludes, the police will formally arrest Amritpal Singh in connection with the Ajnala Police Station attack case. Following this, he will be produced before a local court to seek police remand, accelerating the legal trial proceedings in this matter.
It is pertinent to mention that Amritpal Singh was arrested in April 2023 from Rode village in Moga. During the Ajnala incident in February 2023, Amritpal and his supporters allegedly broke through barricades and forcibly entered the police station. The clash involved weapons and resulted in a confrontation with the police to secure the release of an associate.
Accused: Amritpal Singh and 41 others.
Charges: Serious sections including attempted murder, assault on public servants, criminal conspiracy, and rioting.
The police maintain that Amritpal Singh is the main accused in this case, and his formal arrest will expedite the legal process. Furthermore, several other cases are registered against him across various districts. Given these developments, the situation is expected to take a significant legal and political turn in the coming days.
