New Delhi, September 02:
The growing impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation in the corporate world is casting a major crisis over jobs. According to a report, more than 1.65 lakh (165,000) jobs have been affected due to AI in just the first eight months of 2026, marking an increase of nearly 65 percent compared to 2025. CEOs from more than 55 companies have cited AI as the main reason for layoffs, spanning sectors beyond IT into banking, logistics, law, retail, and media. Leading companies on this list include Amazon, Meta, Microsoft, TCS, Dell, and Intel.
Meanwhile, Vineet Nayar, former CEO of HCL Technologies and founder of Sampark Foundation, strongly criticized the AI-driven layoffs. Speaking about his book “Humans First, Machines Second,” he stated that every revolution has been led by humans, and therefore employees should not be treated as disposable assets. According to Nayar, AI will eventually become a commonplace tool in the future—much like the calculator or the internet—and real benefits will only accrue to those who use it to solve unsolved problems.
