Is China Secretly Supplying Arms to Iran? Four ‘Mysterious’ Chinese Cargo Planes Land in Tehran

Tehran/Beijing: April 18, 2026

In a development that has sent shockwaves through international diplomatic circles, reports have surfaced regarding the arrival of four “mysterious” Chinese cargo aircraft in Iran. According to aviation tracking data and reports circulating on social media (notably via commentator Mario Nawfal), these aircraft allegedly switched off their transponders mid-flight to avoid detection before landing in Iran within a 48-hour window.

The “Dark Flights” and Arms Speculation

The timing of these flights is particularly sensitive, occurring amidst a fragile ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran and shortly after Beijing reportedly assured U.S. President Donald Trump that it would not supply weapons to Tehran.

  • The Tactic: Aviation analysts note that “going dark” by switching off transponders before entering Iranian airspace is a pattern often associated with deliberate concealment of sensitive military logistics.

  • The Cargo: While no official cargo manifest has been released, intelligence assessments shared by major outlets like CNN suggest that China may be preparing to deliver advanced air defense systems, including shoulder-fired missiles (MANPADS), to replenish Iranian capabilities.

  • Routing: Sources indicate that China might be attempting to route these shipments through third countries to maintain plausible deniability.

China’s Firm Denial

The Chinese Foreign Ministry has moved quickly to dismiss these reports. Spokesperson Lin Jian characterized the accusations as “purely fabricated” and “baseless sensationalism.”

“China has never provided weapons to any party to the conflict. These reports are a distraction from the ongoing efforts toward de-escalation,” a Chinese embassy spokesperson added.

Trump Issues “Staggering” Warnings

President Donald Trump has reacted with characteristic bluntness. Speaking to reporters and posting on Truth Social, he warned of severe consequences if the reports are verified:

  1. “Big Problems”: Trump stated clearly, “If China does that, China is going to have big problems,” signaling a potential end to the recent diplomatic thaw between Washington and Beijing.

  2. Tariff Threat: In a more specific economic warning, Trump threatened a “staggering” 50% tariff on Chinese goods if they are caught providing military aid to the Iranian regime.

  3. Hormuz Blockade: The President emphasized that the U.S. naval blockade on the Strait of Hormuz will remain in full force to monitor and intercept any suspicious movement, even as commercial lanes have been partially reopened.
