Fire broke out in Mumbai’s ED office, high profile investigation underway
A major fire broke out early Sunday morning at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office building located in Mumbai’s Ballard Estate area. The blaze started around 2:30 am at the multi-storey Kaiser-I-Hind building, which houses the ED office near the Grand Hotel on Currimbhoy Road.
Fire brigade teams responded quickly after receiving the alert at 2:31 am and began firefighting operations. By 3:30 am, the fire was classified as a Level-II fire, indicating a significant emergency. Later, it was further escalated to Level-III, marking it as a major incident. The fire was mainly confined to the fourth floor of the five-storey building.
A large emergency response was deployed, including eight fire engines, six jumbo water tankers, an aerial water tower, a breathing apparatus van, a rescue van, a quick response vehicle, and an ambulance. As of now, there have been no reports of any injuries or casualties.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and firefighting operations continued for several hours. The incident is particularly concerning as the ED office handles several high-profile cases. The extent of damage to documents and records is still being assessed.
