Chandigarh: April 29, 2026
After nearly ten days of intense heat and rising humidity, a sudden change in weather on Wednesday morning has brought much-needed respite to residents of Punjab and Chandigarh. According to the Meteorological Centre Chandigarh, an active Western Disturbance over North India has triggered light rain and gusty winds across the region.
The drizzle, which began in districts like Ludhiana and Pathankot, has caused temperatures to plummet significantly below the seasonal average, with some areas recording a dip of 6°C to 9°C.
The Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Alert for several districts, predicting that these conditions will likely persist until May 3 (with a brief pause on May 1).
Severe Weather Warning: 14 districts are on high alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and high-velocity winds ranging from 50 to 60 km/h.
Impacted Districts: Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, Mohali, Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, and Rupnagar.
