India’s Official Statement on Operation Sindoor
In a live Army press conference, the Indian government shared detailed insights regarding Operation Sindoor, the response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and two female military officers presented comprehensive information on the attack and the subsequent retaliatory action taken by India. Misri confirmed that the Pahalgam attack was the largest terrorist assault since the 2008 Mumbai attacks, which led to a significant loss of civilian lives.
Misri emphasized that the attack was orchestrated by Lashkar-e-Taiba, a Pakistan-based terror group. He revealed that the Resistance Force—an affiliate of Lashkar-e-Taiba—claimed responsibility for the attack, which was aimed at destabilizing the region. He also highlighted that Pakistan had made efforts to remove the mention of this organization from the UN Security Council statements, underscoring the close ties between Pakistan and this terror group.
Pakistan’s Role in Terrorism and Global Recognition
Vikram Misri pointed out that Pakistan has long been recognized globally as a safe haven for terrorism. On April 23, the Indian government took several tough measures, including halting the Indus Water Treaty, in response to Pakistan’s inaction against terrorist groups operating from its soil. Misri stated that despite these actions, Pakistan continued to blame India for alleged transgressions, further proving its complicity in harboring terror organizations.
In light of the situation, Misri asserted that India was right to take necessary actions against cross-border terrorism and its perpetrations. He reassured the public that the strikes were targeted only at terrorist installations, and no harm was caused to Pakistani military assets or civilians.
Details of the Strike: Female Officers Provide Insight
Colonel Sofia Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, two senior female military officers, elaborated on the specifics of the operation. They confirmed that Indian forces targeted nine terror camps across Pakistani-occupied Kashmir and Pakistan. The aim was to ensure the elimination of only terrorists while avoiding any civilian casualties.
Colonel Qureshi highlighted that one of the significant strikes took place in Kotli Abbas, where a major training camp for around 1,500 terrorists was destroyed. Additionally, the terror camps in Bahawalpur and Mehmooda Zoia in Pakistani Punjab were also hit.
Destruction of Ajmal Kasab’s Training Facility
Another critical part of the operation included the destruction of the terror camp where Ajmal Kasab, the perpetrator of the 2008 Mumbai attacks, received training. The center, known to be a key site for Lashkar-e-Taiba operations, was also neutralized during the strikes.
No Civilian Casualties, Focused Attack on Terrorist Sites
Colonel Qureshi emphasized that no Pakistani military base was targeted, and no civilian harm was caused in the strikes. The Indian military ensured that their operations were precise and focused solely on dismantling terrorist infrastructure, specifically targeting the terror networks responsible for the Pahalgam attack.
