Mike Waltz Spotted Using Less-Secure Signal App at White House

Recent photos from a Trump cabinet meeting have raised concerns. They show senior White House officials using a modified version of the Signal messaging app. This version, called TM SGNL, is said to be less secure.

Former National Security Advisor Mike Waltz was seen using the TM SGNL app. Unlike the regular Signal app, this version allows messages to be stored and archived. As a result, it may not offer full end-to-end encryption.

The app is made by Telemessage. It copies features of popular messaging apps but adds tools for archiving messages. According to 404 Media, this could weaken the app’s privacy.

Earlier, Waltz made headlines after a serious security mistake. He added a journalist to a private chat about U.S. bombing plans in Yemen. After this, Donald Trump removed Waltz as National Security Advisor.

Photos also show Waltz chatting with key officials. These include Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard. One message from Rubio reads, “It’s time.” Another from Vance says, “I’ve got confirmation… he’s on his way.”

White House staff may be using this app to follow legal rules. These laws require that records of presidential messages be saved.

In response, a White House spokesperson told The Washington Post: “Signal is an approved app for government phones.”

Meanwhile, Trump has replaced Waltz with Marco Rubio on an interim basis. He has nominated Waltz as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.
