Zero Tolerance Against Corruption: ASI Caught Red-Handed Accepting ₹15,000 Bribe in Jalandhar

Jalandhar, May 2, 2025:
Continuing its crackdown on corruption, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Sanjay Kumar, posted at Police Station Division No. 8, Jalandhar, while accepting a bribe of ₹15,000. The action is part of the zero-tolerance policy against corruption adopted by the Punjab government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.

According to an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau, the arrest was made after a resident of village Reru in Jalandhar lodged a complaint. The complainant alleged that ASI Sanjay Kumar demanded a total bribe of ₹50,000, threatening to re-nominate him under Section 249 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in a case related to harbouring his son.

🔍 Complaint Details and Operation

The complainant’s name was originally included in an FIR for harbouring his son but was removed after a police inquiry. Despite that, the ASI allegedly continued to harass the complainant and had already extorted ₹25,000, demanding an additional ₹15,000.

After verifying the complaint, the VB team laid a trap and caught the ASI red-handed while he was accepting the second instalment of the bribe in the presence of two government witnesses.

⚖️ Legal Action Initiated

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 308(2) of the BNS has been registered at Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Jalandhar Range. The accused will be presented before a competent court tomorrow, and further investigation is underway, the spokesperson confirmed.
