Trump Extends Ceasefire but Maintains Hormuz Blockade; Iran Rejects Terms

Amidst escalating tensions in the Middle East, U.S. President Donald Trump has announced an extension of the ongoing ceasefire with Iran. This decision comes at a critical juncture as the previous truce was on the verge of expiration. Trump clarified that the ceasefire will remain in effect until Iran presents a “concrete proposal” to the United States and negotiations between the two parties reach a definitive conclusion.

Writing on his Truth Social account, President Trump stated that he is giving the Iranian government an opportunity for peace, but he emphasized that the U.S. Navy’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz will remain strictly in place.

Pakistan’s Role in Diplomacy

A significant diplomatic push from Pakistan appears to be behind this decision. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir reportedly appealed to President Trump to grant diplomacy a second chance.

  • Gratitude: Taking to social media, Shehbaz Sharif thanked President Trump for his decision.

  • Optimism: The Pakistani leadership expressed hope that this extension would pave the way for stability and lead to a permanent agreement during the second round of talks scheduled to be held in Islamabad.

Tehran’s Sharp Rejection

Despite the extension, Iran has reacted with intense skepticism and hostility. An advisor to the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament labeled Trump’s announcement a “conspiracy.”

  1. Suspicions of a Trap: Tehran believes the extension is merely a tactic for Trump to “buy time” and prepare for a “Surprise Attack.”

  2. Equality in Conflict: Iranian officials asserted that a side “losing the war” has no right to impose conditions.

  3. The Blockade Issue: Iran maintains that continuing the naval blockade of their ports is equivalent to active aerial bombardment.

The Standoff Continues

The Iranian leadership has issued a stern warning, stating they will not bow to any form of external pressure and that any further aggression or continued blockade will be met with a decisive military response.

The world now watches the Strait of Hormuz, where the presence of the U.S. Navy remains a flashpoint that could ignite a broader conflict at any moment.
