New Delhi, July 23: Amid the nationwide agitation and growing protests by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP/COP) over the NEET Paper Leak case, clouds of concern have now hovered inside the ruling NDA Coalition at the Center as well. Leaders from the government’s allied parties believe that this issue should not be treated merely as a political issue or a law and order matter; instead, the government must convey a strong message of taking concrete and positive steps to resolve the students’ concerns.
A senior NDA leader from Bihar stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is determined to make the examination system transparent and take action against the culprits, but the biggest challenge lies in eliminating this fear from the minds of students. The allies have suggested that if pressure mounts, the government should not hesitate to hold a discussion on this issue in Parliament.
Amid the ongoing NEET Paper Leak controversy, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thalapathy Vijay reiterated his demand to completely abolish the examination. He demanded that admissions to medical seats should be conducted solely on the basis of Class 12th Board Exam marks.
At the same time, senior DMK leader T.K.S. Elangovan also reinforced the demand to cancel NEET. Opposition parties argue that a centralized examination system favors coaching centers and hurts the dreams of students from rural or backward areas aspiring to become doctors. Notably, since its inception in 2013, the number of candidates taking this exam has surged from 5.58 lakh to 19.99 lakh this year. States like Punjab, West Bengal, Delhi, Kerala, Karnataka, and Maharashtra have previously voiced opposition to it as well.
