PAU TRAINS MOGA-BASED FARMERS IN VERTEBRATE PEST MANAGEMENT

LUDHIANA, JUNE 9, 2025:

A village-level training program on “Vertebrate Pest Management” was successfully organized at village Khosa Kotla, district Moga, Punjab to educate farmers on effective methods for managing rodent pests in field crops. The training camp was conducted in collaboration with the scientists of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Moga, with active participation from 35 farmers.

The session was led by Dr Neena Singla, Coordinator of Research (Basic Sciences and Humanities) and Principal Zoologist (Rodents), who provided detailed insights into both non-lethal and lethal rodent management techniques, along with their integrated use. Special emphasis was laid on rodent control practices in direct-seeded rice, transplanted rice, and rice nurseries.

live demonstration was conducted on the preparation and application of rodenticide bait as per recommended guidelines. Bait was also prepared on the spot and distributed to the farmers along with informative literature for future reference.

Following the training, the team visited nearby fields to assess and document the extent of rodent damage in crops, helping farmers understand the impact and importance of timely pest management. This initiative aimed to empower farmers with practical knowledge and tools for sustainable rodent control, thereby contributing to improved crop yield and food security in the region.
