At least 14 people lost their lives in a devastating fire that broke out at the Rituraj Hotel in central Kolkata on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred around 8:15 PM, and the Kolkata Police confirmed that the fire has been brought under control.
Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma informed the media that 14 bodies have been recovered and several people were rescued from the blaze. A special investigation team has been constituted to determine the cause of the fire, which is currently unknown.
Central Minister and West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar appealed to the state administration to provide immediate relief and medical assistance to the victims. He also called for strict monitoring and review of fire safety measures to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
Reacting to the incident, West Bengal Congress President Subhankar Sarkar condemned the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, stating that many people were still trapped inside the building and questioned the safety arrangements and the corporation’s role in ensuring public safety.
Rescue operations continued through the night, with fire services working to evacuate people and control the fire. Authorities have assured that all necessary steps are being taken to assist the affected and to investigate the incident thoroughly.
