New Delhi | May 9, 2025 – The ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has come under a cloud of uncertainty as military tensions between India and Pakistan intensify. Following a series of security threats and attempted attacks by Pakistan in Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, and Punjab, the BCCI is seriously considering suspending or relocating the tournament. A final decision is expected later today.

A high-profile match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals scheduled for Thursday night was abruptly cancelled. Meanwhile, one earlier match had already been relocated from Dharamshala due to security issues and blackout orders. According to sources, a special train that was arranged to evacuate players, staff, and broadcast crews from Pathankot to Delhi may also be cancelled due to lack of security clearance from Indian Railways.

Despite the chaos, the BCCI has not yet made an official announcement. IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal and Vice-President Rajeev Shukla have hinted that a suspension may be imminent, but final word will depend on government directives. For now, the tournament technically continues, with a match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore scheduled to take place today in Lucknow.

This match is seen as a symbolic gesture to demonstrate that national life and sport remain uninterrupted despite external threats. However, one match has already been cancelled, and another shifted due to operational difficulties in volatile regions.

Press conferences for the upcoming Sunrisers Hyderabad vs. Kolkata Knight Riders game on May 10 are still scheduled, as per BCCI’s latest communication to sports journalists. Both teams are also expected to hold their pre-match practice sessions as planned.

The IPL organizing committee is working with central and state security agencies to ensure the safety of players and staff. An emergency evacuation route has been chalked out from Dharamshala to Pathankot via highway, after which players will be flown to Delhi.

If the situation deteriorates further, the league may either be postponed or moved to a neutral venue abroad. IPL 2025 faces its biggest crisis since the pandemic-disrupted 2020 edition.
