Chandigarh Congress MP Manish Tewari has once again expressed his bitterness over being ignored by the party high command. Sharing lines by famous poet Habib Jalib on social media—“If I had bowed my head and become a ‘Sir’, I would have been a great leader…”—Tewari hinted that he is paying the price for not compromising on his principles. Coming ahead of the Punjab elections, this post has fueled intense speculation about him leaving Congress, although Tewari himself has not issued a clear statement on the matter.
On the other hand, Congress spokesperson Jaskaran Singh Kahlon attempted to manage the situation, stating that Manish Tewari is a very senior and experienced leader of the party. He added that his post should not be taken out of context, suggesting that he might have simply liked the poem and shared it.
It is worth noting that Tewari had previously voiced dissatisfaction after being left out of Congress committees formed for the 2027 Punjab elections. He had written that when your competence becomes another’s insecurity, decisions are driven by personal bias rather than organizational needs. Having started his political journey with the NSUI in 1981 and serving the party for four and a half decades—eventually becoming a Union Minister and MP—he expressed surprise at being sidelined. At the end of his post, he also included the famous phrase “Que sera, sera” (whatever will be, will be).
