The ATOR N1200 Amphibious All-Terrain Vehicle (AATV) is a specially designed vehicle capable of operating on both land and water, making it highly effective for rescue and relief operations in extreme conditions such as floods, snow, mud, and rough terrain.
Dual Capability
Can move easily across solid ground, muddy fields, snowy mountains, and floodwaters.
Its amphibious design allows it to “float” and propel itself in water, just like a boat.
Unique Design
Equipped with large, specially engineered wheels that enable smooth navigation even in deep water or marshy land.
Self-inflating tires automatically adjust air pressure, helping the vehicle stay buoyant in water or avoid getting stuck in mud.
Can climb over obstacles up to 60 cm (2 feet) high.
Usage
Extensively used by disaster management agencies, armed forces, and border security forces.
Ideal for transporting stranded people, delivering relief supplies, and patrolling in inaccessible areas.
In flood-hit regions like Punjab, it plays a crucial role where normal vehicles cannot reach.
Engine & Speed: Powered by a turbo-diesel engine, enabling speeds of 40 km/h on land and 6 km/h in water.
Capacity: Can carry 12 people or up to 1,200 kg of load.
Safety: Fully sealed body prevents water leakage inside, ensuring safe passage during rescue missions.
The ATOR N1200 is manufactured in India by JSW Gecko Motors Pvt Ltd, part of the JSW Group.
Developed in collaboration with UK-based Copato Ltd.
It is essentially the indigenized version of the SHERP N1200 Amphibious Vehicle.
Production takes place at a facility in Chandigarh.
The Indian Ministry of Defence has already placed an order for 96 such vehicles for military use.
The ATOR N1200 has become a lifeline for flood relief in Punjab, where conventional vehicles fail to navigate through submerged villages and farmlands. With its ability to move seamlessly on land and water while carrying heavy loads and people, it ensures quick evacuation, supply delivery, and emergency response in the worst-hit areas.
