Chandigarh, May 16, 2025 – Punjab finally got a break from the intense heatwave as cloud cover, gusty winds, and scattered rain cooled down several districts, especially those near the Himachal Pradesh border. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has lifted the heatwave warning following the weather shift.

In Mohali and other nearby areas, residents experienced light, on-and-off showers today. These conditions replaced the heat that had gripped the state earlier in the day when the IMD had issued a yellow alert. The sky turned overcast in several regions, providing people with much-needed relief from soaring temperatures.

Temperatures Decline Across Punjab

On May 15, Bathinda recorded the highest temperature at 43.5°C. Ludhiana followed with 41.8°C, Chandigarh with 41.7°C, Amritsar with 41.2°C, and Patiala with 41.4°C. These temperatures stood 2.9°C above the usual average for this time of year. Over the last 24 hours, most weather stations observed a temperature rise of just 0.5°C to 1.5°C, though experts now expect stabilization or a slight drop.
