Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Hospitalized, Condition Improving

Mohali, Punjab – Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is recovering after being admitted to Fortis Hospital, Mohali, on Friday night due to health complications. Hospital officials confirmed that his pulse rate has stabilized and that he remains under close medical supervision.

Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia is expected to visit Mann at the hospital later today.

Reason for Hospitalization

According to doctors, the Chief Minister complained of weakness and a low heart rate before being rushed to the hospital. After preliminary examinations, the medical team recommended hospital admission for monitoring. Sources revealed that Mann had been unwell for the past two days, which also forced him to postpone a scheduled flood-affected area visit with Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal.

In recent days, Mann had been touring districts severely impacted by flooding, personally reviewing relief efforts. He was accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP Sant Seechewal and MLA Balkar Singh during these visits. Following the tours, Mann returned to his official residence in Chandigarh for rest and treatment. However, his condition worsened on Friday evening, leading to his hospitalization.

Cabinet Meeting Postponed

Due to his ill health, the cabinet meeting scheduled for Friday evening was also postponed. The meeting was expected to finalize several important decisions regarding the state’s flood response strategy.

Health Scare Last Year

This is not the first time the Chief Minister has faced health-related setbacks. In September 2024, he was also admitted to the same hospital after doctors detected pulmonary artery inflammation during a routine check-up, which caused unstable blood pressure and increased cardiac strain.

Doctors later diagnosed him with leptospirosis, a bacterial infection commonly spread through exposure to contaminated water, especially during monsoon and flooding. At that time, with continuous medical care, his condition improved, and he was discharged after three days, on September 29, 2024.

Broader Implications

Mann’s latest health scare underscores the health risks associated with natural disasters such as floods, particularly the spread of waterborne infections. As Punjab continues to battle flood-related challenges, his illness is a reminder of the critical need to safeguard both relief workers and the public from disease outbreaks.

The state government and citizens are hopeful that Chief Minister Mann will make a swift recovery and return to his official duties soon.
