Security arrangements in the national capital were thrown into a state of panic following a terrifying bomb threat to the Delhi Assembly for the second consecutive day. An email sent to the OSD (Officer on Special Duty) of the Assembly Speaker claimed that 16 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) have been planted inside the building, which are set to go off in powerful blasts at 01:40 PM. This threat comes at a critical time when the Budget Session is underway in the Assembly, causing a wave of panic throughout the complex.
According to the Delhi Police, the individual issuing the threat identified himself as a resident of Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The sender stated that he intended to carry out the attack due to certain political concerns. He further claimed that these 16 IEDs are equipped with dangerous RDX. Adding to the concerns of security agencies, the sender issued a stern warning to the administration not to evacuate the Assembly complex before the explosions.
Immediately following the threat, Delhi Police and security agencies launched a meticulous search of the building. Police officials stated that all precautionary measures have been implemented, and a search operation is being conducted with the assistance of the Bomb Disposal Squad. Notably, a similar threatening email was received on Tuesday before the presentation of the budget—mentioning the Speaker, the Lieutenant Governor (LG), and the Prime Minister—which was later found to be a hoax. Currently, the police are investigating this new threat with utmost seriousness to ensure the security of the Legislative Assembly.
