**India, Italy Reaffirm Commitment to IMEC at Strategic Economic Partnership Meet in Brescia**
*Brescia, Italy – June 5, 2025:*
At the Italy-India Strategic Economic Partnership meeting held in Brescia, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal emphasized the significance of the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), calling it a transformative initiative with the potential to reshape global trade and connectivity.
In his address, Goyal acknowledged the support of Italian Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani, who referenced the IMEC project during the summit. Goyal highlighted IMEC as a “very important project” poised to connect “people, continents, and businesses” while creating immense economic opportunities.
“The potential the IMEC holds—to connect people, continents, businesses, and to open up huge opportunities, both in its creation and in its long-term impact—is immense,” Goyal said. “This is truly the vision of global leadership. The vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is reflected in our joint commitment as co-creators of the IMEC concept.”
He further announced that India is preparing to host the first official IMEC meeting and looks forward to welcoming Italian government representatives. This milestone marks a significant step forward in operationalizing the ambitious corridor, which aims to enhance trade and logistics links between India, the Middle East, and Europe.
The IMEC, unveiled at the G20 Summit in New Delhi in 2023, is envisioned as a critical infrastructure and connectivity project, strengthening strategic and economic ties between partner nations while offering a sustainable alternative to traditional global trade routes.
The Brescia summit reinforced Italy and India’s growing strategic partnership, particularly in sectors like energy, infrastructure, and digital innovation, with IMEC emerging as a central pillar of future cooperation.
