Nangal/Chandigarh, May 4 (NewsUp9):
Harjot Bains visits Nangal Dam for the fourth straight day, showing the Punjab government’s firm resolve to guard its water resources. The Education and Public Relations Minister is closely monitoring the Bhakra Dam to prevent any excess water release to Haryana.
He stated clearly that Punjab’s economy depends on agriculture, which in turn relies on water. “We won’t let a single drop go unjustly to other states,” said Bains. He highlighted that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has already visited the dam. A special Punjab Vidhan Sabha session is also scheduled for May 5 to discuss the issue.
Bains emphasized that AAP volunteers and officials are maintaining constant watch at the dam. He said, “The paddy sowing season is nearing. Our farmers need every drop of water. We cannot spare any for others.”
During his visit, Harjot Bains enquired about water release data and assured citizens that their rights are protected. This visit reinforces the government’s clear message that Punjab will not compromise on water issues.
While at the dam, Bains also reviewed flood prevention measures. He pointed out how heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh causes flash floods in Punjab’s Swan river region. “Why do other states refuse to accept floodwater but demand irrigation water from us?” he questioned.
To reduce flood risks, the state is monitoring water bodies and reinforcing weak dams. Bains shared that the state has already expanded irrigation to 10,000 more acres this year. He also announced a pipeline-based lift irrigation scheme for the Changar region, aimed at improving water supply in hilly areas.
Harjot Bains visits Nangal Dam not just to inspect water levels, but also to lead a visible resistance against any misuse of Punjab’s share. His presence signals that the state government will defend farmer interests at any cost.
With monsoon season and paddy cultivation both approaching, Punjab has made it clear: no extra water will leave the state, and no neglect of flood safety will be allowed.
