The Andhra Pradesh government has extended the suspension of senior IPS officer P.V. Sunil Kumar for an additional four months due to ongoing allegations against him. Kumar, who previously served as the Director General of the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Response and Fire Services, will remain suspended until August 28, 2025, as per a recent government order.
On Monday, April 28, 2025, Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand issued the Government Order (G.O.RT. No. 800), confirming the extension of Kumar’s suspension under Rule 3(8)(a) of the All India Services (AIS) Disciplinary and Appeal (D&A) Rules, 1969.
Sunil Kumar has been facing serious charges, including misbehavior and misconduct. These allegations stem from his unauthorized foreign visits, which violated government regulations. Kumar reportedly undertook multiple overseas trips without the necessary permissions, as well as deviated from the travel plans that had been approved by the state government.
His initial suspension was imposed on March 2, 2025, under Rule 3(1) of the AIS (D&A) Rules, following these accusations. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) also confirmed the suspension, as communicated by the Chief Secretary.
In addition to the suspension, the Andhra Pradesh government set up a Review Committee to assess the case. On April 21, 2025, the committee recommended that Kumar’s suspension be extended by another 120 days. Following the committee’s recommendation, the state government decided to take further action.
The disciplinary proceedings against P.V. Sunil Kumar will continue as the government evaluates the seriousness of the charges and his conduct during the period of suspension.
