Weather Update: Heavy Rain Alert Issued in Four Punjab Districts

Chandigarh, August 25, 2025: The Meteorological Department has issued another rain alert for Punjab. Today, heavy rainfall is expected in Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, and Rupnagar districts. However, the weather is likely to remain normal on Wednesday and Thursday before another spell of showers begins on Friday.

According to forecasts, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, and Rupnagar—bordering Himachal Pradesh—are likely to receive above-normal rainfall over the next 24 hours.

In Jammu and Kashmir, excess water has been released from the Ranjit Sagar Dam following continuous rainfall. This has heightened the risk of floods in Punjab’s Majha region. The water level of the Ravi River is steadily rising, prompting authorities to close the Pathankot–Jammu Highway. A high alert has also been issued from Pathankot to Amritsar.

In Gurdaspur, increasing water levels in the Ravi, Ujh, and Chakki rivers have triggered flood-like conditions in several areas. At Dinanagar, the confluence of the Ravi and Ujh rivers has caused waterlogging at Makoda Patan. Seven villages near the Pakistan border—Toor, Chebe, Mami Chak Ranga, Bharyal, Laseean, Jhumber, and Kajla—have been cut off from the rest of the region due to rising waters.
