Weather Mood Changes in Punjab and Chandigarh from Today: ‘Yellow Alert’ for Rain and Gusty Winds Till March 19

After prolonged dry spell, Punjab and capital Chandigarh set for weather shift. IMD issued ‘Yellow Alert’ from today for next four days across state for thunderstorms, lightning, and gusts at 30-40 kmph. New Western Disturbance will drop max temps 3-5°C over next week, providing relief from rising heat.
IMD data shows March rainfall deficit this year. Punjab averages 11.9 mm; only 0.4 mm so far—97% below normal. Districts like Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Patiala, Sangrur saw zero rain till now. Today, light rain expected in Majha/Malwa: Amritsar, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Firozpur, Muktsar Sahib.
Director Surender Pal says March 15-16 impacts Doaba/Central Punjab too. Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana, Mohali likely cloudy with gusts. March 17 mainly Pathankot-Rupnagar. Ferozepur hit 31.8°C recently, but incoming rain promises pleasant weather statewide.
