A hardcore Naxalite carrying a reward of ₹8 lakh on his head was gunned down in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Gariaband district. A senior police official confirmed the operation took place late Friday evening in the forests near Motipani village under Jugaad police station limits.

The joint team, comprising personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and District Police’s E-30 unit, launched an anti-Naxal operation following intelligence inputs about Maoist activity in the region—located approximately 180 kilometers from the state capital Raipur.

Following the exchange of fire, security forces recovered the body of one slain Naxalite, a self-loading rifle (SLR), and a large cache of explosives. The deceased has been identified as Yogesh, a divisional committee member of the Maoist group, for whom a bounty of ₹8 lakh had been announced.

According to police officials, a total of 145 Naxals have been killed in various encounters across Chhattisgarh so far in 2025. Of these, 128 were eliminated in the Bastar Division, which includes seven districts, while 17 were killed in Gariaband district, part of the Raipur Division.
