Poonch, Jammu & Kashmir – July 30, 2025 — Two terrorists were gunned down by Indian security forces during an encounter in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday morning. The operation, part of the ongoing ‘Operation Mahadev’, was launched near the Line of Control (LoC) after intelligence inputs indicated the presence of militants hiding in the dense forest region.
Acting on a tip-off about 2–3 suspected terrorists concealed in the forest, a joint search operation was initiated. As the security forces advanced, the terrorists opened fire, triggering a gunbattle. In the ensuing firefight, two terrorists were neutralized. All are believed to be affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
This marks the second anti-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir within three days. On July 28, three LeT militants were killed by security forces near Harwan in Srinagar, close to the Dachigam National Park. The slain terrorists — Hashim Musa, Jibran, and Hamza Afghani — were suspected of involvement in the recent Pahalgam attack. Jibran was also reportedly responsible for the 2024 Sonamarg Tunnel Project attack. Recoveries from the scene included an American-made M4 carbine, AK-47 rifles, 17 other firearms, and grenades.
March 27–29, 2025 – Kathua (Hiranagar): A prolonged three-day operation led to the elimination of three militants. Unfortunately, four policemen were martyred. The multi-agency effort included the Indian Army, NSG, BSF, and CRPF. Bulletproof vehicles and drones were used in the operation, overseen by J&K DGP Nalin Prabhat.
April 14–15, 2025 – Poonch (Surankote): One Army soldier was injured during an encounter with militants in Lasana village of Surankote subdivision. The gunfight erupted during a cordon-and-search operation.
May 23, 2025 – Kishtwar: One soldier was martyred and two others injured during a brief encounter believed to involve Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) militants. The terrorists, including a local JeM commander, managed to escape.
November 2024 – Kishtwar (Chhatroo): Three separate encounters took place in the forests, resulting in one para commando’s death and injuries to three other soldiers. One terrorist was killed.
The series of encounters indicates heightened terrorist activity in the region, prompting intensified surveillance and counter-insurgency efforts. The army continues operations along LoC sectors to prevent infiltration and neutralize sleeper cells in forested areas.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the two terrorists killed today, but sources confirm they were part of a larger group attempting to infiltrate across the LoC.
