Hail and Strong Winds Hit Several Areas Last Night

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a four-day weather alert for Punjab, lasting until May 5, 2025. Strong winds, rain, and dust storms are expected in several districts, including Amritsar, Gurdaspur, and Pathankot.

According to IMD, dust storms with wind speeds of 40–60 km/h are likely on May 1 and 2 across Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi. These weather activities may continue from May 3 to May 6 as well.

Current Conditions

In the last 24 hours, winds blew at speeds of 20–30 km/h in Amritsar, Gurdaspur, and Pathankot. As a result, several trees fell, and temperatures dropped slightly.
Some regions also received rainfall, offering temporary relief from the heat.

  • May 2:
    Dust storms are likely in many parts of Punjab, except for a few southern and eastern districts where weather may remain calm.

  • May 3–4:
    Most districts may see high winds (40–60 km/h), lightning, and widespread dust storms. Hailstorms are also possible in some areas.

  • May 5:
    Partial relief is expected in a few districts. However, strong winds and thunderstorms may continue elsewhere.

Temperatures across Punjab in May are expected to range between 30°C and 43°C.
After overnight rainfall, cities like Bathinda, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, and Mohali recorded cooler conditions.
Bathinda recorded a maximum temperature of 41.2°C.

The IMD has urged people to stay indoors unless necessary and to avoid standing near trees, unstable structures, or electric wires during storms.
Agricultural and power departments have also been advised to stay on alert, as strong winds may cause damage to crops and infrastructure.
