The Madhya Pradesh government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to examine the case involving Minister Vijay Shah. The move comes after a direct order from the Supreme Court. The case revolves around Shah’s controversial statement about Colonel Sofia Qureshi.
Three senior IPS officers from outside Madhya Pradesh have been selected to ensure a fair inquiry:
Pramod Verma, IG, Sagar (Rajasthan cadre)
Kalyan Chakravarthy, DIG (Andhra Pradesh cadre)
Vahini Singh, SP, Dindori (Rajasthan cadre)
By appointing officers from other states, the government aims to keep the investigation free from local influence.
On May 12, Minister Vijay Shah called Colonel Sofia Qureshi the “sister of terrorists” during a public event in Raikunda village. The remark caused outrage after a video of the statement went viral. The opposition and the public demanded strict action.
Although Shah later apologized, the Supreme Court found the apology unacceptable. The court then ordered a neutral and high-level investigation led by external IPS officers.
Only IPS officers should handle the case
None of them should be from Madhya Pradesh
The investigation must be fast and fair
The newly formed SIT will now begin its investigation. Legal experts believe the move will speed up the case and ensure justice. The government hopes this step will restore public trust.
