Singer Jasbir Jassi’s Bold Statement: “Deras More Dangerous Than Drugs, People’s Minds Get Brainwashed There”
Ludhiana: March 11, 2026
Famous Punjabi singer Jasbir Jassi took a strong stand against performing at religious dera congregations and annual melas during a recent interview. Jassi questioned dera operations, calling them more dangerous than drugs (white powder), claiming they brainwash people—more deadly for society than narcotics.
Jassi revealed rejecting 32-35 lakh offer to perform at Ludhiana dera mela. When organizers pressured saying they’d book bigger singers and he could gain “baba’s blessings” for fame, Jassi firmly refused. Said he doesn’t need baba’s grace—Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji’s blessings suffice. Principle: Never perform at graves or controversial religious sites.
Jassi views singing as social duty. Asked: If offered money to sell drugs, would he? Artists should guide society right, not promote misleading activities.
Not new for outspoken Jassi:
Shabad Kirtan row: Sikh groups objected to religious event performance; apologized respecting Akal Takht orders.
Honey Singh vulgarity: First artist opposing Yo Yo Honey Singh’s obscene lyrics.
Pakistani artists support: Backed Pakistani actress in ‘Sardar Ji 3’; faced social media backlash, FIR filed.
