In a tragic and deeply disturbing case, Deepak Yadav, the father of 25-year-old national-level tennis player Radhika Yadav, broke down in tears and told his relatives, “I should be hanged,” after allegedly shooting his daughter dead inside their home in Gurugram on July 10.
Following his arrest, Deepak Yadav was presented before a local court in Gurugram on Friday and was sent to one-day police remand. Investigators revealed that he showed minimal cooperation during questioning, offering short and vague responses.
“He gave very limited information. It appears he’s either in shock or deeply regretful,” said an officer involved in the investigation, who requested anonymity.
According to Radhika’s uncle, Vijay Yadav, Deepak admitted to the crime and stated at the police station, “If there is a rule for hanging, then hang me.”
Police sources disclosed that Deepak had been disturbed by comments from people suggesting that he was living off his daughter’s earnings. “He felt humiliated by these remarks and had been depressed for the last 15 days,” an officer stated. He reportedly confessed that this shame triggered his violent act.
On the day of the murder, Radhika was reportedly preparing breakfast for her mother’s birthday in the kitchen of their three-storey house when her father shot her three times in the back. She died on the spot.
Radhika was known for her passion for tennis. Though she didn’t own an academy, she regularly booked tennis courts to train others, police said. Her commitment to the sport and her growing success had made her a respected figure in her community.
During the probe, investigators also questioned Radhika’s mother, Manju Yadav, but concluded she had no role in the crime. “She had no idea Deepak would kill their daughter,” said Gurugram Police PRO Sandeep Kumar. “Initial suspicion pointed to possible complicity, but no evidence supports that. The investigation confirms that Deepak acted alone.”
