Pakistan Army Foils Terror Attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; 3 Militants Killed in North Waziristan Operation

Pakistan’s security forces successfully foiled a major terrorist attack in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday, killing three militants linked to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The operation came just a day after another counter-terrorism raid in which eight militants were neutralized.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army received intelligence about a planned suicide bombing in North Waziristan’s Jhullar area. Acting swiftly, troops surrounded the terrorists before they could execute their plot. During the confrontation, the militants opened fire, triggering an intense gun battle. All three terrorists were killed on the spot, while a vehicle rigged for a suicide attack was destroyed by security forces.

ISPR’s statement confirmed that the terrorists were affiliated with TTP and the splinter group Fitna al-Khawarij. “The attempted attack was aimed at destabilizing the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region,” the statement added.

The foiled assault coincided with the second round of Afghan peace talks in Istanbul, underlining the growing security concerns across the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

Second Attempt in Two Days

This is the second consecutive day Pakistan has faced a terror attempt. On October 24, Pakistani forces killed eight militants and injured five others in Lakki Marwat district’s Wanda Sheikh Allah area. Those militants, also linked to the TTP, were reportedly plotting an imminent attack but were intercepted before carrying it out.

Rising Terrorism Since 2021

Since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021, Pakistan has witnessed a sharp surge in terror incidents, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Police stations, law enforcement personnel, and security convoys have frequently come under attack.

Following the collapse of a ceasefire agreement with the TTP in 2022, violence has escalated across the tribal belt. In response, Pakistan launched airstrikes in Kabul earlier this month (October 9) targeting TTP strongholds, signaling a renewed military campaign against cross-border militancy.

Pakistan’s Defence Minister recently warned Afghanistan of “a full-scale war” if peace efforts fail, emphasizing that Islamabad would not tolerate any further terrorist infiltration.
