Major Crackdown on Terrorists in Kashmir: Lashkar Operative’s House Demolished After Pahalgam Attack
Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have launched a sweeping crackdown on militants in the aftermath of the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that left dozens of tourists dead and several injured. The attack, which took place in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district-about 85 kilometers from Srinagar-has triggered a massive response from the Indian Army, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police, with intensified operations across the Valley.
Demolition of Terrorists’ Properties
In the past three days, security forces have demolished or blown up at least eight houses belonging to active militants, including that of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative Jameel Ahmad. These demolitions have taken place in Pulwama, Kulgam, Tral, Bijbehara, and Shopian districts. Houses belonging to other militants such as Adnan Shafi, Farooq Ahmad (operating from Pakistan), Shahid Ahmad Kout (active since 2002), Zahid Ahmad, and Harris Ahmad have also been razed.
Expanded Counter-Terror Operations
The crackdown has intensified with the deployment of additional special forces and PARA units for ambush missions in forested regions of Shopian, Kulgam, and Anantnag. Security forces are conducting dangerous house-to-house searches, looking for hidden terrorists and their supporters, often risking encounters with suicide bombers.
Operations have also expanded to the Kishtwar forest area and the Chenab Valley, with multiple anti-terror actions underway in other parts of Jammu and Kashmir as well.
High-Level Security Response
The Army Chief and senior military leadership have visited Kashmir to review operational readiness and coordinate daily briefings on the ongoing counter-terror efforts. The government has also set up emergency help desks for tourists in Srinagar and Anantnag, as the attack targeted visitors at the peak of the spring travel season.
Objective: Dismantling Terror Infrastructure
Authorities have made it clear that the aim is not only to bring the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack to justice but also to dismantle the entire infrastructure and support network of terrorism in the region. Overground workers (OGWs) and suspected accomplices are being detained and questioned as part of these efforts.
