A lightning strike on Thursday night caused heavy damage to a house in Majra Jattan village, Nawanshahr. The strike hit around 9:30 PM, damaging the home of Mejar Singh and destroying several household items.
The lightning directly hit the second floor. It caused visible cracks in the roof and walls. A concrete horse statue on the rooftop was badly damaged. The statue’s head shattered completely from the impact.
The power surge that followed destroyed many appliances. A refrigerator, air cooler, television, water pump, and fans were all burnt. The family estimates their losses at ₹2.5 lakh (INR 250,000).
“We are relieved no one was hurt, but the property loss is huge,” said Mejar Singh.
The family has asked the district administration for financial help. Though no injuries occurred, the incident left them shaken and financially stressed.
Everyone inside the house stayed safe during the incident. The damage remained limited to the building’s upper structure and electronic equipment.
