Impact of Iran-US War: LPG Cylinder Prices Surge, New Rates Effective Today

New Delhi | March 07, 2026

The ongoing war between Iran and the United States in West Asia is now directly affecting Indian kitchens. Due to international tensions, prices of domestic and commercial LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) cylinders have seen a significant hike across the country. According to ANI sources, the price of a 14.2-kilogram domestic gas cylinder has increased by 60 rupees, while the 19-kilogram commercial cylinder price has risen by 115 rupees. These elevated prices came into effect nationwide today, March 7.

Following this price increase, the cost of a domestic cylinder in the capital Delhi has jumped from 863 rupees to 913 rupees. For commercial cylinders, the new price in Delhi stands at 1883 rupees, and in Mumbai, it has reached 1835 rupees. Concerns over rising oil and gas prices were already raised after joint US-Israel strikes on Iran. India imports a large portion of its needs from Gulf countries, where the current war has disrupted supplies through the Strait of Hormuz.

To prevent a gas shortage in India, the central government has taken strict measures. Under the Essential Commodities Act (ESMA), the Petroleum Ministry has ordered oil refineries to use propane and butane gas exclusively for LPG production. Refineries have been prohibited from using these gases for petrochemical products, and all supply must go only to government oil companies—Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum—to meet domestic demands.
