How to Block Spam and Unwanted Numbers on WhatsApp: The Easiest Method

WhatsApp has become one of the fastest and most popular ways to communicate every day. However, unknown numbers, spam messages, and unwanted calls can sometimes disturb your privacy and create unnecessary trouble. Thankfully, WhatsApp offers simple built-in features that help you block such contacts quickly and easily.

How to Block Unwanted Numbers on WhatsApp

If a particular number keeps bothering you, the simplest solution is to block it. Once blocked, the person will no longer be able to message you, call you, or view your Last Seen, Status, or profile updates.

WhatsApp allows you to block numbers using two main methods:

Method 1: Block Directly from Chat (The Easiest Way)

If the person’s message is already in your inbox or you have an active chat:

  1. Open WhatsApp and go to the chat you want to block.

  2. Tap the three dots (menu) on the top right.

  3. Select More.

  4. Tap Block.

  5. Confirm again by tapping Block.

This method is quick and effective.

Method 2: Block Using WhatsApp Settings

If you want to block a number without opening their chat:

  1. Open Settings in WhatsApp.

  2. Go to Privacy.

  3. Tap Blocked Contacts.

  4. Tap Add (or the add icon on the top right).

  5. Select the contact or number you want to block.

This is useful when you want to manage all blocked contacts from one place.

Silence Unknown Callers on WhatsApp

If you often get calls from unknown numbers, WhatsApp’s “Silence Unknown Callers” feature is extremely useful. It protects you from spam, scam attempts, and suspicious calls.

How This Feature Helps:

  • Unknown numbers will not ring your phone.

  • The call will still appear in your call list, so you can check later who tried to call.

How to Enable It:

  1. Go to Settings.

  2. Select Privacy.

  3. Tap Calls.

  4. Turn on Silence Unknown Callers.
