Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini chaired an all-party meeting on Saturday at Haryana Niwas to address the deepening water crisis affecting the state. The meeting follows a similar all-party gathering held in Punjab on Friday, led by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Leaders from across Haryana’s political landscape took part in the discussion, including BJP state president Mohan Lal Kaushik, senior Congress leaders Bhupendra Singh Hooda and Udai Bhan, INLD president Rampal Majra, and representatives from the JJP, AAP, BSP, and CPI(M). The collective aim was to forge a united response to the escalating water shortage and Haryana’s demand for its rightful share.
The crisis has intensified tensions between the two neighboring states. Punjab, grappling with its own acute water scarcity, has taken a firm stance. A special session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha has been called for Monday, where a resolution is expected to be passed asserting that the state cannot afford to release even a drop of water to Haryana.
As both states face growing pressure to protect their water interests amid declining resources, the decisions emerging from these high-level political meetings are being watched closely, with significant implications for inter-state relations and water management in the region.
