Police in Batala, Punjab, recovered a live hand grenade early Saturday morning from outside a newly opened liquor outlet operated by the Rimpal Group. The shop is located in the Focal Point industrial area of Gurdaspur district. Thankfully, the grenade did not explode.
Soon after the discovery, a social media post went viral. In it, Khalistani terrorists Manu Agwan and Gopi Nawanshahria claimed responsibility for the grenade attack. Police obtained the post and launched an immediate investigation based on its contents.
As news of the grenade spread, senior police officials and intelligence teams reached the site quickly. They cordoned off the area, collected evidence, and safely took the grenade into custody. Officers also recorded statements from the liquor shop’s contractor and nearby business owners.
The Focal Point houses several large factories and commercial establishments, where hundreds of workers are present during the day. A successful detonation could have resulted in major casualties. Locals reported feeling alarmed as the news of the grenade spread.
Police and central agencies have now intensified efforts to track the terrorists. Investigators believe the attackers may be operating from abroad and using online propaganda to spread fear. Authorities are examining whether any local accomplices helped with the incident.
Law enforcement officials have appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious objects or activities. This latest act has raised fresh concerns over the presence of Khalistani sleeper cells in Punjab and their attempts to destabilize peace in the region.
