Kabul: March 17, 2026
The ongoing tension between Afghanistan and Pakistan took a bloody turn today as a major strike by the Pakistani military in Kabul resulted in the deaths of 400 people. The Taliban government has leveled serious allegations, stating that the Pakistani military targeted a hospital in Kabul’s 9th Police District where patients were undergoing treatment for drug addiction. Approximately 250 people were injured in the attack, and a large portion of the hospital building has been reduced to rubble, leading to fears that the death toll could rise further.
Government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid strongly condemned the action, terming it a direct violation of Afghanistan’s territorial integrity. He clarified that those killed were ordinary civilians seeking medical treatment. On the other hand, Pakistan has completely rejected these allegations. Musharraf Zaidi, spokesperson for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, claimed that their military targeted only terrorist support centers, military installations, and ammunition depots, denying any attack on a hospital.
This violent conflict escalated just hours after a cross-border exchange of fire between the forces of both countries, which claimed several lives, including two children. In Khost province, several houses were also damaged due to Pakistani mortar shelling. Given the war-like situation persisting between the two nations for the past three weeks, China has intervened. The Chinese Foreign Ministry has urged both neighboring countries to exercise restraint and resolve issues through direct dialogue. However, following this massive humanitarian disaster in Kabul, the situation in the region has become extremely volatile.
