In a deeply distressing incident in Jamshedpur, four members of a family were found dead inside their home late Friday night. Krishna Kumar, a 40-year-old senior manager at Tata Steel’s Gamharia plant and a cancer patient, allegedly took his own life along with his wife and two children. Their bodies were found hanging from the same ceiling in one room.
The incident came to light when neighbors reported a foul smell coming from a locked room in the house located in Adityapur’s Chitragupt Nagar. Police responded quickly and broke open the door. Inside, they discovered the lifeless bodies of Krishna, his wife Dolly, 13-year-old daughter Pooja, and six-year-old daughter Maya.
Krishna Kumar had been undergoing cancer treatment in Mumbai and had recently returned to Jamshedpur. His father, Shobindo Tiwari, shared that Krishna was diagnosed with third-stage cancer and needed regular chemotherapy. Although such treatment was available in Jamshedpur, the family initially went to Mumbai on the advice of Krishna’s wife, Dolly.
Upon returning, Krishna resumed treatment locally and submitted a leave application to his employer. According to neighbors, the family became socially withdrawn after learning about Krishna’s illness. They spoke to no one and were last seen on Wednesday evening. When the family didn’t emerge from their home for over 24 hours, concerned neighbors contacted the police.
The police summoned a forensic team to investigate the scene. Initial assessments suggest a suicide pact driven by the psychological trauma of a terminal illness. However, authorities have not ruled out other possibilities and are continuing their investigation.
