BJP Reacts to Punjab Flood Losses: “Whose Land, Their Sand”

Punjab BJP senior leader Ashwani Sharma has expressed concern over the heavy losses suffered by farmers in the recent floods across the state. He said that after the water receded, large amounts of sand had settled on farmland, leaving the soil unfit for cultivation.

Sharma urged Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to immediately amend the state’s mining policy and adopt the principle of “Whose land, their sand.” He explained that such a move would allow farmers to legally claim and use the sand that has accumulated on their own fields.

BJP’s Call to the Punjab Government and Assurances

  • Policy Amendment Demand: The BJP has demanded that the state government urgently revise the mining policy to empower farmers to remove and utilize sand from their land without facing restrictions.

  • Assurance of Support: Sharma promised that if the government fails to act, the BJP will step forward to support flood-hit farmers independently.

  • Sand Removal Assistance: The Punjab BJP pledged full cooperation in helping farmers clear their fields of sand, ensuring that the sand rightfully belongs to the concerned landowner alone.

Ashwani Sharma emphasized that this was not a time for politics but for understanding the pain of Punjab’s people and helping them recover. He reassured farmers that the BJP stands firmly with them during this crisis.
