Assam Rifles Convoy Attacked in Manipur, One Soldier Martyred

A soldier of the Assam Rifles was killed and three others were injured when armed assailants ambushed a military truck in Manipur’s Bishnupur district on Friday evening.

According to officials, the incident occurred around 6 p.m. in the Nambol Sabal Leikai area. The truck was carrying personnel from Imphal to Bishnupur when unidentified gunmen opened fire, leading to heavy casualties.

One official confirmed that a jawan of the paramilitary force succumbed to his injuries, while three others were rushed to a nearby hospital by police and local residents. They are currently undergoing treatment.

Following the attack, security has been tightened in the district, with additional forces deployed to prevent further incidents. Search operations have been launched to track down the assailants, though no group has claimed responsibility yet.

Authorities suspect the ambush may have been part of a larger conspiracy, and an inquiry is underway to determine whether there were lapses in the convoy’s route security.

The attack highlights the continuing security challenges in Manipur, where ethnic tensions and insurgent violence have surged in recent months, placing additional pressure on security forces operating in the region.
