Zelensky Strikes Conciliatory Tone After Trump Accuses Ukraine of Showing “Zero Gratitude”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed gratitude toward the United States after U.S. President Donald Trump accused Ukraine’s leadership of showing “zero gratitude” for American efforts to help end the war with Russia.

😠 Trump’s Sharp Criticism

On Sunday, Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to issue pointed criticism—without directly naming Zelensky. He argued:

  • Inherited Conflict: Trump said he had inherited a war “that should never have happened.”

  • Lack of Appreciation: He claimed that “Ukraine’s leadership has shown no gratitude for our efforts to stop the war.”

  • Europe’s Role: Trump also remarked that Europe continues to buy oil from Russia.

  • Weapons Aid: He added that while he sold weapons to Ukraine through NATO, U.S. President Joe Biden “gave everything away for free,” undermining America.

🙏 Zelensky Responds With Thanks

Within hours, Zelensky responded via an Instagram post, softening his tone and expressing appreciation:

“Ukraine is grateful to the United States, to every American heart, and to President Trump personally for the support that has saved Ukrainian lives—from the first Javelin missiles to this very day.”

🤝 Ongoing Geneva Negotiations

This exchange comes as U.S. and Ukrainian officials meet in Geneva to discuss a U.S.-proposed 28-point plan intended to bring the war to an end.

  • Initial Concerns: Ukraine initially criticized the proposal, calling it too favorable toward Russia.

  • Updated Draft: Ukrainian officials now say the revised version better reflects most of Ukraine’s priorities, though it has not been fully approved.

  • High-Level Talks: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio attended the meeting and described the discussions as “good.”
