Yasin Malik Claims Meetings with RSS Leaders, Shankaracharyas in High Court Affidavit

New Delhi, September 20, 2025 – Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief and convicted militant Yasin Malik, currently serving a life sentence in Delhi’s Tihar Jail, has made several explosive claims in a recent affidavit filed before the Delhi High Court.

Malik alleged that over the years, he held discussions with multiple former prime ministers, union ministers, foreign diplomats, and intelligence officials. He also claimed that two Shankaracharyas from different religious seats visited his Srinagar residence and were even publicly seen with him at a press conference.

One of his most striking assertions was about a five-hour-long meeting with RSS leaders at Delhi’s India International Centre in 2011, facilitated by the think tank Centre for Dialogue and Reconciliation. Malik argued: “It is concerning that instead of distancing themselves from a person facing such serious allegations, influential members of society continued to engage openly with me.”

Role in Vajpayee-Era “Ramzan Ceasefire”

Malik further stated that he played a key role in the 2000–01 Ramzan ceasefire announced by then-Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He claimed that he met Ajit Doval in Delhi, who introduced him to then Intelligence Bureau chief Shyamal Dutta and National Security Advisor Brajesh Mishra. According to Malik, Vajpayee’s close aide R.K. Mishra even arranged a breakfast meeting for him with Brajesh Mishra.

Malik said he later contacted JKLF leaders in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and United Jihad Council chief Syed Salahuddin, which led to a joint statement from Hurriyat leaders—Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and Abdul Gani Lone—supporting the ceasefire. He added that both Vajpayee and then Home Minister L.K. Advani backed his efforts, after which he received his first passport in 2001. Using it, he traveled to the U.S., U.K., Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan to advocate for what he called a non-violent, democratic struggle on the Kashmir issue.

Claim of Meeting Manmohan Singh

Malik also claimed that in February 2006, then Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh invited him for formal talks, assuring him that the Indian government was serious about resolving the Kashmir issue.

NIA Seeks Death Penalty

On August 11, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) formally sought the death penalty for Malik in the terror-funding case. The Delhi High Court granted him four weeks to file a reply, with the next hearing scheduled for November 10.

The government has accused Malik of challenging India’s sovereignty through separatist and terrorist activities, and of maintaining close links with Pakistan-backed militants.
