Hassan, Karnataka – August 21, 2025:
In a deeply disturbing crime that has shocked Karnataka’s Hassan district, a 32-year-old woman named Shweta was allegedly murdered by her married lover after she refused his marriage proposal. The accused, Ravi, reportedly forced Shweta into his car, drove her to a lake, and then pushed the vehicle into the water with her trapped inside.
Police said Shweta and Ravi had known each other for years, having first met while working in Hassan. Though Ravi was already married, he persistently pressured Shweta to marry him, assuring her he would leave his wife. Shweta, who had separated from her husband and was staying with her parents, rejected his proposal and refused to continue the relationship.
Investigations revealed that on Sunday evening Ravi lured Shweta into his car and took her to the Chandanahalli lake area in Belur taluk. There, he pushed the vehicle into the lake. Shweta was unable to escape and drowned, while Ravi managed to swim to safety. To cover up his crime, he claimed the car had slipped into the water accidentally and that he had survived by chance.
Shweta’s family filed a complaint, voicing suspicion over Ravi’s story. Police grew doubtful and, after examining the post-mortem report and eyewitness accounts, confirmed that this was not an accident but a deliberate act. A case of murder was registered, and Ravi was arrested by the Arahalli police.
Authorities are now probing whether Ravi had pre-planned the crime and if he had any accomplices. The brutal killing has shocked locals, who are demanding swift justice for Shweta. Police said further details would emerge as questioning continues.
