Weather Turns in Punjab-Chandigarh: ‘Orange Alert’ for Gusty Winds & Thunderstorms, Temps to Drop

Punjab and capital Chandigarh’s weather fully transformed; cloudy skies with gusty winds since last night in several areas. IMD issued ‘Orange Alert’ for March 15 warning thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms across state. Gusts at 40-50 kmph likely. Sri Anandpur Sahib topped 32.3°C past 24hrs (above normal), but cooling ahead.
Latest alert covers many tehsils: Patran, Sangrur, Mansa, Bathinda, Patiala, Mohali, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Gurdaspur + more. High hail risk in nine districts: Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Barnala, Sangrur. Director Surinder Pal Singh attributes to active Western Disturbance over north India.
New Western Disturbance activates March 17 night, bringing light-moderate rain next week. Heat lingers next 24hrs, then 3-5°C drop over five days for relief. Ups-and-downs expected till March 20.
