According to Samaa TV, the blast was caused by a gas leak while maintenance work was being carried out on the building’s central air-conditioning system. The explosion originated from a large gas cylinder that suddenly burst, shaking the entire structure.
Eyewitnesses reported that the blast was so intense that judges, lawyers, and visitors ran for safety, fearing it might be a terrorist attack. Court proceedings were immediately halted as emergency alarms went off across the premises.
Security personnel and rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene, evacuating injured workers and court staff. The victims were transported to nearby hospitals, where several were said to be in stable condition. Firefighters also rushed in to control the situation and prevent any secondary explosions.
Authorities have sealed off the area and launched an investigation into the incident. Preliminary reports confirm that the blast was accidental, linked to gas leakage during repair work, and not an act of sabotage.
The shockwave from the explosion could be felt several blocks away, causing momentary chaos in the vicinity of the Supreme Court. Safety inspections are now underway to assess any structural damage to the building.
Officials have assured the public that court operations will resume only after the premises are declared completely safe.
