May 14, 2025 – Riyadh: In a significant diplomatic move, U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the complete removal of sanctions on Syria. He made the declaration during a meeting with leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
According to sources, Trump’s decision came following mediation by Saudi Crown Prince Salman. He also held a direct meeting with Syria’s interim President Ahmad Al-Shara, marking the first such high-level contact between the two nations in 25 years.
After the meeting, Trump stated that the U.S. is considering normalizing relations with Damascus, signaling a new chapter in Middle Eastern diplomacy. “We believe it’s time to open a new era of cooperation and understanding,” he said.
