US Will Land in Trouble if It Threatens India and China, Warns Russian Foreign Minister

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has issued a sharp warning to the United States, cautioning that threatening ancient civilizations like India and China will backfire. Speaking on Russia’s leading television channel Channel One during the program The Great Game, Lavrov strongly criticized Washington’s tariff and pressure tactics, particularly under President Donald Trump’s leadership.

Lavrov noted that America’s attempts to stop countries like India and China from purchasing Russian energy are producing the opposite effect. “India and China are ancient civilizations. You cannot talk to them in the language of ‘either do what I say, or I will impose tariffs.’ That approach will not work,” he emphasized.

US Pressure on India

For weeks, Trump and senior members of his administration have targeted India over its purchase of Russian oil, accusing New Delhi of indirectly funding the Ukraine war. India, however, has firmly rejected the allegations, making it clear that its energy imports are guided purely by national interests and market needs, not by external pressure.

Lavrov backed India’s stance, stating that the U.S. position was “morally and politically wrong.” He said that Washington’s tariff policies were forcing countries to search for new energy markets and resources, often at higher costs.

Russia’s View on Sanctions

Addressing the issue of new sanctions, Lavrov dismissed them as insignificant. “To be honest, I don’t see any problem with these so-called new sanctions,” he remarked. “During Trump’s first term, we were already subjected to unprecedented restrictions. We learned our lessons back then.”

He further accused the Biden administration of using sanctions as a substitute for diplomacy, claiming there was no genuine attempt at negotiations during Biden’s tenure.

India’s Response

India has described Washington’s actions as unfair, inappropriate, and impractical. New Delhi maintains that its energy policy is dictated only by national interest and prevailing market conditions.

Lavrov’s warning reflects Moscow’s growing support for India and China as they continue to resist U.S. pressure. Analysts say this signals a broader shift in global power dynamics, where Washington’s aggressive tariff strategy could push major Asian economies closer to Russia.
